Kunal Rajan is a Pondicherry-born, Los Angeles-based sound designer, and one of the few Indian sound artists working across both mainstream Hollywood and Indian cinema. Fascinated by how sound shapes the cinema experience from an early age, he trained and built his career in the United States, learning the subtler sound traditions of Western filmmaking while staying deeply connected to the scale and energy of Indian films.
Moving with ease between Kollywood, Bollywood and Hollywood, Kunal has worked as sound designer, supervising sound editor and sound producer on a wide range of projects, collaborating with Kamal Haasan and creating the soundscapes for films including Karthik Subbaraj’s Mahaan and Atlee’s Shah Rukh Khan-led Hindi film with Red Chillies Entertainment. For Kunal, sound is not an afterthought but a storytelling tool that can elevate a film, and he is a passionate advocate for the growing importance of sound in Indian cinema.
